They have driven up the price of packs, and have scared kids away from the hobby. It's no longer about pulling your favorite player (whether that be Alex Rodriguez or Kurt Stillwell), now it's all about the inserts.
Yes, I'm a bitter old man who longs for the days of the 1980s, when there were no inserts. Your autographs were acquired either through the mail or in person hanging out at the hotel after a game, not pulled from some overpriced pack loaded with commons and never-will-make-it rookie cards.
Grrrr.

Amen to that brother! You are preaching to the choir here. Topps 08 kind of has it right though, the inserts run about 1 per pack, it's not hard to complete the set, I find my doubles aren't too bad (even with the topps '52 set).

I just started collecting the Topps 2008 Series 1 cards about 2 weeks ago--the first set I've collected since '91 or '92.
What's the deal with the Topps All-Star Rookie insert card? I've pulled 4 of them in 18 packs. Do you get a vote, a chance at winning the trophy, nothing, what?
Also, the David Wright/"Topps for Education" card. I've pulled 3 or 4 of those, then a similar card with no David Wright, but a weird white sticker in the middle of it. Any idea what the deal with it is? _________________ ------------

For the Rookie trophy insert, it's basically an ad and a distraction for pack searchers. There is a website where you can vote for your favorite rookie by position.
The David Wright insert is pretty common. Although, I've heard that it's being priced by Beckett for $1.50. Any Topps For Education card is pretty worthless as a collectible. It's all basically just advertising designed to disguise as a potential hit.
The white sticker is a security tag.
Hope that helps some!

Hey, White Sox Cards, have you finished putting together a 2008 Topps Series I set? I'm about halfway through--just far enough that buying packs is pretty much a waste because I'm pulling all doubles.
Anyways, I'm looking to trade for some of the cards I still need. Let me know if you still need anything and/or what doubles you have to trade. _________________ ------------

The only set I am completing is the 2008 Topps Heritage. I just collect White Sox cards and any card of Harold Baines and Carlton Fisk. I have a bunch of Topps Series 1 cards that I could trade. E-mail me a list of what you need.
